“Art Under Foot” – A Display of Hooked Rugs

Coordinated by the
Cream City Rug Hooking Guild
Friday - Saturday - Sunday – Activity Center

The Wisconsin Sheep & Wool Festival is privileged to again welcome the return of the Cream City Rug Hooking Guild and an impressive display of handcrafted rugs, ‘Art Under Foot’. The rugs and mats vary from primitive to modern, small to large. The Cream City Rug Hooking Guild was formed to develop interest in rug hooking and encourage creativity and high standards in the art form of traditional rug hooking. The guild provides an environment in which our members, new to hooking or founding members, can improve their hooking skills, exchange ideas and enjoy socializing. The sixty plus guild members from southern Wisconsin help to increase the knowledge and quality of rug hooking by demonstrating the art as well as planning educational activities. Guild members meet twice a month and have workshops twice a year. Members will be demonstrating at the ‘Art Under Foot’ display throughout the festival. This year will feature two special displays. The “Friendship Rugs” have been worked on for several years. Sixteen members designed a rug around 16 squares to be completed by the other friends – these friends designed their own square to put on the other rugs. The other special display will be the “Vintage Card Challenge.” Guild members created a hooked piece, any size, from a vintage or antique card or postcard. Many members used cards from their youth! SPECIAL THANKS!
To the Cream City Rug Hooking Guild as a 2021 donor and long-time supporter of the Wisconsin Sheep & Wool Festival.
