Educating for the future!

The purpose of the Youth Sweepstakes is to encourage youth attending the Wisconsin Sheep & Wool Festival to participate in educational and exhibition events and to expand their knowledge and proficiency in sheep production. We encourage 4-H, FFA and other youth groups preparing for district, regional or national competition to participate in any of the following competitions to qualify for Youth Sweepstakes points:

  • Make It With Wool
  • Judging Contest
  • Poster Contest
  • Lead Line
  • Photo Contest
  • Junior Fleece Show
  • Skillathon
  • Junior Breeding Sheep Show
  • Jr Breeding Sheep Showmanship
  • Market Lamb Show
  • Market Lamb Showmanship

Age Divisions:

(Age as of January 1)

  • Beginners: 7 – 9
  • Junior: 10 - 12
  • Intermediate: 13 - 16
  • Senior: 17 – 21

To help us with scoring, pre-register for Youth Sweepstakes through Showman and indicate all events in which you may participate!

Scoring: Individuals are encouraged to compete in any and all of the listed competitions. Points will be awarded based on participation and placing within each event. Overall points will be determined by a combination of total points from an individual’s four highest scores; not more than two of those scores may come from exhibiting breeding animals, fleeces or market lambs.

Note to Market Lamb Exhibitors: There will be a separate showmanship division for market lamb exhibitors that will be based on Wisconsin Club Lamb Association age breaks and which will count for WCLA points, but not for Youth Sweepstakes points. Results will be announced during selection of Junior Supreme Champion sheep on Sunday.
