Dr. Lisa Surber, PhD, was born and raised on a ranch near Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada and is still active in her family’s commercial cattle operation.  She obtained her B.S., M.S., and PhD in Animal and Range Sciences from Montana State University. During her time at MSU, she was the managing director of the Montana Wool Lab. Lisa served as a Wool Education Consultant for the American Sheep Industry Association and with WestFeeds as a Ruminant Nutritionist. Lisa now runs her own consulting business providing nutritional expertise for cattle and sheep, wool classing and education services, NSIP certified ultrasounding services, and OFDA on-site wool testing services covering western Canada and the U.S. Lisa now lives in lives in Newell, SD and can be reached at or 406-581-7772.

  • Once at ShoWorks, you will need to CREATE AN ACCOUNT (user name and password) as an “exhibitor” – even if you registered or entered in previous years. Under DEPARTMENT, select Wool Handling Workshop. Be sure to enter the NAME OF ATTENDANT when completing your registration.
  • ORDER – Once you have an entry in your shopping cart, you can save your progress and return at a later time. Returning users can sign in with user name and password. NOTE: You cannot sign up twice for the same class!
  • PAYMENT – No saved registrations can be guaranteed unless payment is made. Payment must be made by credit card at the end of the registration process through our secure online system.
  • When you are finished registering, you’ll receive an email confirmation. However, it is suggested that you PRINT YOUR ORDER in case your email confirmation does not go through

Persons registering by August 15 will receive a Gate Pass mailed to the mailing address provided.

$5 per sample – cash only
Dr. Lisa Surber will be available to do micron testing at the close of the Fleece Shows on Saturday afternoon, September 7. Check with Fleece Show volunteers on start time.
