Back for 2008!

Here’s an opportunity for owners of any herding breed to hone their dog’s skills or to check for herding instinct. Joyce Burnham, professional handler, trainer and owner of Custom Stock Dogs, will offer training sessions and instinct tests Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Class & Instinct Test Schedule

Friday – September 5
9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Saturday- September 6
9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
4:00 – 6:00 p.m.

Sunday- September 7
9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
2:00 – 3:30 p.m.

Classes – Two 15-minute sessions* $85
Two-days of classes (4 sessions total) - $150

Instinct Test – One 10-minute session** $35

* Class sessions should be scheduled at least an hour apart: Morning - afternoon scheduling
is preferred.

** Registration fees for Instinct Test may be credited toward class sessions.

1. Instinct Tests run ten minutes maximum.
2. First come – first served within a time slot. Register for the time slots you want. Check in with Instructor when you arrive to get on the schedule for that time slot.
3. If received by August 15, confirmation of Clinic or Instinct Test registration will be made by email, or if no email address is available, by mail.
4. Open to any herding breeds.
5. Recommend a minimum of a one-hour rest for class dogs, dependent upon weather conditions.
6. Suggested ages: Classes – 8 months and up. Instinct Test – 4 to 8 months.
7. If dogs listen well in distracting situations, they will progress faster in a class.
8. Dogs shall be under control of their owners at all times except for class or test sessions.
9. No dogs allowed in buildings.
10. PLEASE NOTE The only dogs allowed on Festival grounds are those enrolled in Border Collie 101 Training Classes or Instinct Tests, competing in the Crook & Whistle Stock Dog Trial or are certified service dogs, service dogs in training or dogs whose owners have specific permission from Festival management. Please – no pets.
11. No refunds unless classes are cancelled.
12. Video taping of sessions by owners encouraged.
